Pre-Surgery Preparation

  • Consult your doctor and discuss your expectations in detail  

  • Things to avoid

  1. Smoking/tobacco chewing – Stop at least one week before surgery as nicotine can delay healing and cause complications

  2. Blood thinners – Stop taking aspirin or similar blood thinning products should be for one week before gynecomastia surgery. It may increasing bleeding tendency during the surgery

  3.  Specific Medications- ibuprofen, Diclofenac should be stopped and should be cleared with doctor before consumption

  4. Supplements- Dietary supplements with fish oil, Vitamin E, Green tea and herbal medicines should be discontinued 5 days before surgery.

  5. Alcohol- Avoid at least 3 days before surgery.

       Following these guidelines can help minimize the risk of complications and promote a smoother recovery process after gynecomastia surgery.              Always follow the specific instructions provided by your surgeon.

 

  • Things to do 

  • Blood investigations required 3-4 days before surgery-

  1.  Complete blood count,

  2. Viral Markers,

  3. Coagulation profile PTINR, BT,CT

  4. RBS

  5. Chest X ray

  6. ECG

  7. Serum creatinine

  • ​Compression garment – Customised before surgery

ON THE DAY PRIOR AND DAY OF SURGERY

  • Compression garment – Customised before surgery and got along with reports in the hospital on the day on surgery as it has to be worn immediately after surgery

  • Pack your bag- Loose clothes, surgery paperwork, reading glasses, identity card

  • Jewellery and valuables- Do not bring any jewellery or valuables on the day of surgery

  • Nil per oral- 6 hours before surgery don’t have water or food if in general anaesthesia

  • Kindly trim chest, abdomen and armpit hair with a  trimmer, if not possible at home , will be done in the hospital itself

  • Lotion- Don’t apply any cream or lotion before surgery on chest region

  • Arrival- To reach atleast two hours before surgery

  • Payment-A certain Booking amount is needed to book the surgery. Also before the surgery schedule your entire payment.

  • Transportation- Please arrange for someone to drive you in and take you home after surgery

  • Care- An attendant might be required to take care of you on first night

  • DAY OF SURGERY

  1. Compression Garment- Post surgery your customized compression garment will be worn.

  2. Immediate appreciation of results

  3. Have liquid diet in evening, can resume normal diet the next day

  4. Medicines – Oral antibiotics for five days, usually painkillers are prescribed but most of the patients don’t complain of much pain

  5. No smoking, No alcohol, No lifting heavy weights

  6. Overhead hand movements might be difficult initially

  • Day-2

  1. Can resume desk job

  2. Avoid exercise

  3. Avoid over exertion

  4. Can take bath,without removing pressure garment

  5. Resume normal diet

  6. Chest might feel bit heavy, can take a painkiller

  • Day-3-4

  1. Can resume normal job/activity

  2. Avoid driving

  3. Avoid heavy exercise

  4. Avoid heavy exertion

  5. To follow up in clinic for check dress for the first time with prior appointment
     

  • Day 4-7

  1. Stop antibiotics as prescribed

  2. No need of painkillers

  3. Keep on wearing compression garment 24*7

  4. Start chest lymphatic massage as taught on your visit to us

  5. Can resume normal walk,

  • Day 7-14

  1. Resume normal activities completely

  2. Continue lymphatic massage

  3. Usually no pain is there, you can contact your surgeon if needed

  4. Slight swelling will be there

  • Day 14-21

  1. Can resume normal activities completely

  2. Can take slight amount of alcohol if need be

  3. Avoid smoking

  4. Can start driving a car or riding a bike 

  • At the end of one month

  1. Swelling is reduced by up to 90%

  2. Can start exercise

  3. Keep on wearing compression garment for at least 18 hours a day for next 4 weeks
